Last week, 44 of the biggest movers n’ shakers in World Rugby descended on Topsham RFC in Devon, to check out the world of grassroots rugby.
RWC 2023 observer delegates from France, Ireland, Italy & South Africa, along with organisers from Japan 2019, were treated to a lavish ‘Taste of the West” working lunch and some good old west country hospitality, before hearing first hand of Exeter’s RWC 2015 legacy success story.
Fresh from a month long tour of Exeter’s primary schools, project lead Tracey Alison was quick to pull the room of rugby royalty into order with a teasing warning that, if they played up, she would be left with no choice but to ask them to sit with their hands on their hands. Fortunately, the room grasped the joke and were the perfect audience throughout, with Tracey having to pull rank only once!
The delegates also got to meet Mini and were super keen to grab a photo opportunity with him. The Italians, especially, took to him immediately and were the among the first to praise the legacy.
There are exciting times ahead, for sure. Watch this space!
